Update on Plastic Kitchenware from China / Hong Kong imported via the EU

Published: 14th March 2024

New import controls are set to be introduced for plastic kitchenware

From 30th April 2024 new import controls are set to be introduced for plastic kitchenware originating from China or Hong Kong that are being imported into the UK via the EU.

This is in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) No 284/2011 which sets out the specific conditions and procedures for the import of polyamide and of melamine plastic kitchenware.

Plastic Declaration Documents (PDDs) that have been endorsed in the EU will no longer be accepted from 30th April.

PDD notifications will have to be made to a Port Health Authority at the port of entry as IPAFFS is not currently available for food-contact materials. Pre-notifications should be submitted at least two working days in advance of the estimated date and time of physical arrival of consignments.

Pre-notifications of these consignments will need to be submitted to us via PHILIS DES.
